capturing the art of life
Family is very important to me. Not only do I have a wonderful little pod of an immediate family (two girls and a fantastic husband plus two frogs, three fish and, at the moment, some butterflies!) but I have a huge extended family. In fact, my friends tease me that my stories always start with "My cousin" but what is great about my family is that they are some of the most talented (and likable) people I know! There are artists, dancers, musicians, photographers, graphic artists, writers, craftsman, chefs, fiber artists an actor and more! Art is something that is important in the culture of my family and photography is the artistic outlet that I'm most passionate about. I care about texture, pattern, color, composition - all the things that make a great painting.
I have a background in architecture and was heading down that career path when I discovered my love of photography. Roughly 9 years ago, my FAVORITE Father-In-Law (no one tell him that he is my ONLY Father-In-Law please, he likes the favorite title!) gave me his old 35mm film camera. At the time I had an 18 month old and I took many, many photos of her and her friends. It has served me well to this day because not only did I learn a lot about photography but I learned a lot about how to capture a busy toddler as well!
Travel is also a big love of mine. I've had the opportunity to live in Aberdeen, Scotland as a teenager and in Dublin, Ireland just recently with my family. Both times were wonderful experiences for me and gave me many great opportunities for photography as we traveled around Ireland and Europe.
So, whether it is on a new travel adventure or right in my backyard, my camera is never far away from me. I get such joy in capturing that perfect shot of a client that makes it seem like I'm not even there but ...
