I’m Back!

Can it really have been over two weeks since I’ve last posted?! Shame on me!  Ah well.  I guess that is just how it goes sometimes. I’ve been writing blogs in my head for the last couple weeks so I hope to have a lot posted soon!

So for today, I’ll leave you with some photos from our family outing on Sunday. This is my best kind of day – dinking around Seattle, people watching, being with my family and then finishing it off with ice cream at Molly Moon’s!  Oh Yeah!

We went to the Conservatory in Volunteer Park.  I’ve never done that before.  Super interesting.  I imagine it’d be great to do that on a really cold and rainy day because it’s like visiting a rain forest and desert -

I made a comment that the only thing that would take that day from good to great is going to a market… I love markets!  Flea markets, framers markets …whatever!  So we headed into Fremont to the Sunday market but you can’t go to Fremont without visiting the Troll -

G bought some glasses at the market so I snapped a shot of her with her new shades -

Umm..to cool for school!   No?

I don’t know why but I love taking photos of the backs of my girls heads.  There is a painting by Gerald Richter that I saw for the first time in my big “Art Book”.  I’d never heard of him before and I don’t know anything about his other paintings but this one is one of my favorite paintings in that whole giant book.  It stops me every time.  It’s his daughter and it’s titled “Betty”-

Here’s my “Betty” –

It was a good day…

See you back here soon!  xo  Christiana

How do you say “Great Family” in Dutch?

I had the privilege of photographing a family who were all together in Seattle for a holiday. They were super fun! Here are some of my favorite shots from the day – Dannenberg-2Dannenberg-18Hello Bright Eyes!Dannenberg-33Dannenberg-96Dannenberg-50Dannenberg-107Dannenberg-101Dannenberg-103Dannenberg-53Dannenberg-119-2Isn’t that last one romantical (I know…not a real word.  But is should be!)?!  I think I also taught them a new English word – “Smootch”.  Thank you for such a fun photo shoot D family!!

A Child’s View

I got a new point-and-shoot camera for my birthday.  I wanted something I could just throw in my purse and carry with me at all times because I’ve found that I don’t take as many photos as I used to now that I have my giant 10 pound camera!  And there is no way I’m letting the girls play with her.  But I don’t mind them playing with my new one.  Anyway, here are some that R took at the dog park which I thought were quite good!

Kari did a similar as a guest blogger for Me Ra Koh and you can read about it here.  It is really interesting to see what a child sees.

And one more that R took…

A Walk in the Park

Can it really have been since the 2nd that I posted anything on my blog?!  Wow!  I hope to remedy that in the next couple of days!

Anyway, thought I’d share a few pictures from a photo walk I took on Tuesday at my favorite park – Juanita Bay Park in Kirkland.  I never ever get sick of going there and Tuesday was no exception.  I was taken with the fact that even though it is winter, color still abounds!  And it is fun to see the birth of Spring!

Look at the color of just these branches!

I thought it was fun to see this recently cut tree and the life already creeping over it…

Family Session Marathon – Part One

Wow!  I can’t stand how fun my job is!!  So this weekend I got to take Family Photos for a bunch of families connected to Westminster Chapel.  We did a marathon photo shoot and got 11 families in and will do more this weekend as well.  Whew!  Hard work but oh so fun!

I asked Ben to pick out his favorites from the shoot.  He initially picked out over 50 shots!  With each family having quite a few in that bunch and then narrowed it down to the ones you see here.

For those families that got their photos taken – I want you to know how much fun I had and how much I enjoyed meeting you all!  You were so flexible, fun loving, and trusting of my suggestions.  I’m busting my buttons on every family’s collection of photos!  If you don’t see the photo or photo of a child you were hoping to see here on the blog, don’t worry!  I got it!  Ben just had to cut it down….MOMs8

Fun and Educational Family Session

If you’ve been reading my blog you know I love going to what we call “Turtle Park” (Juanita Bay Park) because there is so much to see there from various birds to turtles to even beavers (if you’re lucky).  It is also my favorite place to do photo sessions because there are so many great backdrops while keeping the kids entertained.  And added benefit is all the birders there who will talk to anyone and everyone about what birds they are seeing.  One women told us the different songs she uses to coax different birds to come to her.  She was working on a French aria that particular evening for the Red Bellied Sap Sucker but another bird (can’t remember which one) she told us, will come out for anything.  She suggested Old McDonald.  See educational…and entertaining.

Here are a few shots from the evening -

Bird Nerd

Well, I feel myself slipping there.  I’m becoming a birder.  I think it has something to do with my camera, of course.  Although I prefer to take photos of people, there is something very satisfying about getting a shot like this…

dsc_8128Ben and I went down to Juanita Bay park on Sunday morning and I was just giddy at all that was going on.  This Red Wing Blackbird defending its nest against the Heron.  I love listening to the RW Blackbirds.  They have the coolest call.  One landed right by me and posed for a shot.

dsc_8124The turtles were also out all over enjoying the sun like true Seattlites.

dsc_8137And then there were THREE Bald Eagles out on the water.  One started heading towards us and I snapped this.  Its a bit out of focus probably because I was so excited it was coming toward me!  If you think I’m uncool for being a bird nerd, you cannot tell me that it isn’t cool to see three Bald Eagles soaring over the lake!
